77-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed in Crash

Officials are investigating after a 77-year-old woman was hit by a car and killed Saturday night in Arlington, Massachusetts.

Helen Doyle was crossing Massachusetts Avenue around 9:20 p.m. when she was hit by a 2009 Honda Civic. The driver, a 76-year-old woman from Brookline, stayed on the scene.

Police say Doyle was not in the crosswalk.

Doyle was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

"On behalf of the entire community, I offer my sincere condolences to the victim's family," said Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan in a statement. "My heart goes out to them during this extremely difficult time."

The crash remains under investigation.
