A 79-year-old woman has died after being pinned under a vehicle Monday outside a memory care assisted living facility in Nashua, New Hampshire.
The woman was hit in the parking lot of Bridges by EPOCH on Amherst Street. Police responded shortly after 12 p.m. to find her beneath a van that was being driven by an 80-year-old man, according to the Nashua Police Department.
First responders lifted the vehicle off the victim, who was found dead from her injuries, police said.
“You see all these police cars and you see the yellow tape and your husband’s inside and you’re like ‘Oh dear what happened’,” said Diana Lytle, who was visiting her husband. “When you’re in a memory care facility you don’t want to get anybody upset.”
The two people involved were an elderly couple arriving to Bridges for a planned educational program, the memory care facility said in a statement.
"No residents or staff members were involved in [the] tragic accident. All residents, who are living with Alzheimer's disease or dementia, are safe, secure, and largely unaware of the incident," the statement read. "The entire EPOCH family is profoundly saddened by this event."
The driver who caused the accident remained at the scene and is cooperating, according to police.

“They got to look into everything with the vehicle,” said Nashua Police Lt. Carlos Camacho. “The driver, the situation at hand...to investigate all the happenings around the accident.”
EPOCH says it is working with local authorities and cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.
