80-Year-Old Wrong-Way Driver Involved in 3-Car Crash on I-93

An 80-year-old man went the wrong way on I-93 in Wilmington, Massachusetts, leading to a three-car crash Saturday morning, according to police.

The elderly driver, from Lynnfield, was heading south on the northbound side of the highway in Wilmington around 9:30 a.m. when his 2013 Acura crashed.

He was not hurt, but a 25-year-old Boston man and a 26-year-old woman from Central Falls, Rhode Island, who were driving the other two vehicles, suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Lawrence General Hospital.

The Boston man's 2002 Chrysler also caught fire.

The crash did not have much impact on traffic, with the scene being clear shortly after 10 a.m.

No one has been charged or cited. The name of the wrong-way driver is being withheld by police.
