    An 85-year-old man has died after being hit by a vehicle that fled the scene in Taunton, Massachusetts.

    The victim, identified as Jose Ferreira of Taunton, was hit on Middleborough Avenue near Center Street Tuesday, Taunton police said. Officers responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. to find him lying in the road.

    An ambulance took the man to Morton Hospital, police said. He was later pronounced dead from his injuries, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said.

    Officers are looking for a small grey SUV that is believed to have been involved, according to a statement from Taunton Police Chief Edward Walsh. The DA's office says the vehicle may have light damage to its front end.
