9 Injured in Crash Involving School Bus

A school department spokesman says there were 28 middle and elementary school students on the bus

Police say nine people including three students on a school bus were injured after a crash involving several vehicles in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

The accident happened at around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Police tell the Standard Times of New Bedford that a sports utility vehicle crossed the center line of Acushnet Avenue and struck two other cars head-on. The SUV then hit the school bus, which had just stopped at a stop sign.

A school department spokesman says there were 28 middle and elementary school students on the bus. Three were taken to St. Luke's Hospital after complaining of pain, and the others were later brought to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

Police said the female driver of the SUV was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious head and upper body injuries.
