9 Seniors Banned From School's Graduation

They were found in possession of marijuana and alcohol on their senior trip

Nine students at a western Massachusetts high school have been barred from attending graduation ceremonies after they were found in possession of marijuana and alcohol on their senior trip.

Pioneer Valley Regional School Superintendent Dayle Doiron says she's standing by her disciplinary action despite pleas from parents and a rally in front of the school Thursday in which other seniors and adults held signs saying "Let Them Walk."

Graduation at the Northfield school is scheduled for Friday evening.

The seniors were found to be in possession of pot and booze during last weekend's trip to Ocean City, Maryland. None are facing criminal charges.

Kathy Hale, a parent of one of the students, tells The Recorder that the punishment is too harsh.

The students will still get diplomas.
