An “Epic” Prime Day 2018 Arrives July 16 on Amazon

Amazon’s annual shopping event – known as Prime Day – will be back on July 16, the company announced on Tuesday, honoring its subscription-encouraging tradition of presenting Prime members with exclusive deals in the middle of the summer.

For the first time, Prime Day will be Prime Day and Half, with offerings available through July 17. Also, the company will offer specific deals at Whole Foods and discounts on Alexa-enabled products like Echo, Fire TV and Fire tablets.

Here’s what to need to know to make the most of the Prime Day 2018, which the company described as “epic”:

The Hours

Amazon’s Prime Day 2018 will start on July 16 at 3 p.m. ET and will run through July 17 for a total of 36 hours. Since Tuesday, each day leading up to Prime Day will offer exclusive deals. Last year, Prime Day ran for 30 hours, making the 2018 edition of the annual shopping day the longest to date.

The Deals

In the allotted timeframe, Amazon will offer Prime members based in the U.S. and selected countries more than one million exclusive deals across TVs, smart home, kitchen, grocery, toys, fashion, furniture, and back-to-school supplies.

The Cost

In April, Amazon raised the annual cost of its Prime subscription service for U.S. customers to $119 per year, up from $99. An Amazon Prime subscription, which usually comes with a free trial, includes two-day delivery on selected items as well as the opportunity to stream movies, read books and listen to music online. U.S. customers can also opt for a monthly Prime subscription at $12.99/month ($155.88 for 12 months).

Whole Foods Deals

Amazon Prime 2018 includes deals at grocery chain Whole Foods, which was acquired by Amazon in June 2017. On Prime Day, there will be an additional 10 percent off hundreds of sale items throughout Whole Foods Market stores, and discounts on select products. In addition, from July 14 through 17, Amazon Prime Rewards Visa cardmembers with an eligible Prime membership will double the rewards – 10% back – when shopping at Whole Foods (up to a total of $400 in purchases).

Active Promotions

Amazon said that a few deals will be active the same day of the announcement (July 3). These deals include special discounts on Echo Show, lowest prices on products from collections available exclusively on Amazon, up to 50% off on popular movies and TV shows on digital, DVD and blu-ray and three months of unlimited reading with Kindle Unlimited for $0.99. The whole list of active deals is available here.
