An animal welfare organization says hundreds of animals seized from a squalid farm in Westport, Massachusetts, earlier this year are on their way to finding permanent homes.

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on Wednesday said it has spent months working with its network of animal welfare agencies to transport the animals rescued in July to rescue groups throughout the country.

When police went to the property, they found dead sheep, sick goats, and animals of numerous species, many living in "deplorable conditions.''

The ASPCA moved about 1,000 animals to a shelter at an undisclosed location and has provided care and behavioral enrichment.

The organization says rabbits, dogs, sheep, goats, ducks and pigeons are among the animals that have been or soon will be adopted into safe homes.
