Today, people from across the state and region are spending their Mother’s Day morning walking for peace.
NBC 10 Boston’s very own Latoyia Edwards is hosting The Mothers Day Walk for Peace - started 23 years ago to support mothers of murdered children.
The walk also honors loved ones who’ve been murdered and advocates for ways to create more peaceful communities. The walk is nearly 7 miles.
A program is also scheduled here in Dorchester’s Town Field Park. Guests include Gov. Charlie Baker, Mayor Marty Walsh and Congresswoman Ayana Presley.
Earlier in the week, we spoke to the organization’s founder, Tina Cherry, whose 15-year-old son, Louis Brown, was killed on his way to a Christmas after school anti-gang party in December 1993.
The walk is organized by the Louis D Brown Peace Institute: a resource center for people impacted by murder, grief, trauma and loss. Their goal is to raise $400,000 with this event.
