Arrest Made in Fatal Stabbing of Lowell Teenager

A Massachusetts man has been arrested in connection with the fatal Monday night stabbing of a teenager in Lowell.

Victor Crespo, 21, of Lowell, was taken into custody Tuesday and charged with second-degree murder and two counts of violation of a restraining order, according to the Middlesex district attorney's office.

Police responded to a reported stabbing in the area of Lawrence Drive and Riverwalk Walk at about 7 p.m. Monday. The victim, identified as 18-year-old Asiatic Alvarez, of Lowell, was taken to Lowell General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation suggests that Crespo and the victim knew each other and had arranged to meet prior to the altercation to exchange money for marijuana. During the transaction, Crespo allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.

Police were able to identify Crespo through an investigation and arrest him Tuesday morning without incident.

Crespo was expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Lowell District Court. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
