Ashburnham Elementary School Principal Fired Over Husband's Arrest for Sexual Assault

A Massachusetts school district has fired an elementary school principal whose husband was arrested for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old school employee.

A spokeswoman for former John R. Briggs Elementary School Principal Andrea McGrath says she was fired Wednesday after more than a month on administrative leave.

The Sentinel & Enterprise reports McGrath's husband, James, is accused of sexually assaulting the employee four times while he worked as a substitute custodian.

Spokeswoman Susan Shelby says Andrea McGrath denies any wrongdoing, and she plans to sue the Ashburnham school district. McGrath had served as principal since 2011.

The school superintendent says the district does not comment on personnel matters.

James McGrath's criminal case is still pending.
