Belichick: Chung, McCourty Could Be Good Lacrosse Players

Quarterback Tom Brady? Maybe not as much

Tom Brady might be the greatest NFL quarterback of all time, but the head coach who he won six Super Bowls with doesn't think he'd fare as well on the lacrosse field.

New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick was at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, but not for football. The eight-time Super Bowl champion took in the debut of the Premiere Lacrosse League as a fan.

Belichick is a longtime fan of the sport, and played while at Wesleyan College in addition to coaching at Detroit Country Day School while serving as an assistant for the Detroit Lions.

NBC Sports broadcaster Paul Burmeister asked the coach what position Brady would play on the lacrosse field. Belichick's answer?

"Goalie," Belichick said. "You need to be able to run here."

Belichick went on to walk about how safeties Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung would make good players due to their quickness. He then showed some retired Patriots legends some love.

"I think (Tedy) Bruschi would have been a good defenseman...Rodney Harrison," the coach said. "Those guys would have been pretty good, you know. (Mike) Vrabel. Guys like that who are long and tough."

The PLL is a brand new professional lacrosse league that is focused on providing players with healthcare and a $25,000 minimum salary. There are six teams, and instead of tying the team to a specific city or region, the entire league travels to a different city each weekend to play in the most viable lacrosse markets available.

On the field, the Redwoods defeated the Atlas 11-9. There are 10 players on the Redwoods with ties to New England, including John Sexton from Sudbury, Massachusetts and Wolfeboro, New Hampshire's Ryder Garnsey. Both played college lacrosse for the University of Notre Dame.
