Boston police have released surveillance images of the driver who struck and injured a bicyclist early Sunday morning, then fled the scene.

The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street.

Police say the 30-year-old victim was one of two bicyclists traveling east on Commonwealth Avenue when he was clipped from behind by a silver sedan — which may have been speeding.

Authorities believe the victim was forced into the side of a red Mini Cooper, dragged and eventually run over.

"It looks like he went airborne and the car may have run over him at that point," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans. "We have a vehicle leaving the scene — it looks to be a four-door silver vehicle which looks like it speeds off, takes a right on Berkeley Street, the wrong way."

Police said the bicyclist was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

"Right now he's in tough shape. He's still alive. Hopefully, he pulls through," said Evans.

The injured bicyclist was on the opposite side of the road from the bike lane when the accident occurred, according to police. The other cyclist was not hurt and is cooperating with authorities, as are other witnesses.

Police are continuing to review footage from surveillance cameras in the neighborhood as part of the investigation.

The silver sedan should have damage to its roof near the windshield area on the driver's side of the vehicle.
