    Weather Forecast: Highs Around 60

Thursday night: Showers dwindle, mostly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Friday: Clouds and sun. Highs around 60.

    (Published Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019)

The wind will remain strong through this evening as our "bomb cyclone" continues to slowly move away from New England. Gusts stay between 30 and 40 mph this evening, dwindling to 20-30 mph gusts by Friday afternoon.

This means it will take crews more time to restore power with the dangerous wind gusts still around. Temperatures will drop into the 40s with a mostly cloudy sky and a few lingering showers overnight.

Rain has been hanging around the mountains and especially across Vermont and the Berkshires all day. But colder air aloft has filtered into the Green Mountains and other higher elevations so rain will continue to mix with snow.

Any accumulating snow should stay at or above elevations of 2,500 or 3,000 feet. We had reports this afternoon that Mt. Snow and Stratton had snow, and Mt. Washington had rain falling.

The rain ends for Friday, but will linger across the mountains in northern New England. Again, there could be snow mixing in with the rain near the Canadian border in higher terrain. High temperatures will be in the 50s and it will feel much cooler with the gusty northwest wind.

The weather continues to improve as we head into the weekend. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 60s to upper 50s north.

Sunday highs reach the low 60s and it may be a tad cloudy with a coastal storm passing well south of New England. That storm may become Tropical Storm Nestor in the Gulf this weekend, then continue to track off the Carolina coast by Sunday into Monday. A few showers may reach the south coast, but stay tuned for updates on that.

Next week we have a couple systems bringing in scattered rain for mid-week with highs reaching near 70 Tuesday, then back to around 60 for the rest of the 10-day.
