Apparent Human Bones Discovered on Wakefield Property

Authorities say they have no confirmation that the bones are human

Police are investigating the discovery of what appear to be human bones at a property in Wakefield, Massachusetts.

The discovery was made at a home on Lakeshore Drive at 10:24 a.m. Monday, according to police. A landscaper working on the property found the bones, shoes and clothing under brush behind a shed in the rear of the home, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office said.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the human remains had been outside for an extended period of time.

Due to the condition of the remains, the district attorney's office said the cause of death and identity is not immediately available.

Neighbors told NBC10 Boston the previous owner, a Wakefield woman, had been renting the home as a sober house before the current owners moved in. They are shocked but never saw anything out of the ordinary.

"Shocked. I was shocked. Once in a while the policemen would go up you know, an ambulance would go up. I hear the ambulance," recalled neighbor Madeline Donnelly. "But I thought everything was quiet. I never heard them you know. I never really seen them except when they went for a walk."

Current owner Patrick Sautier said his family of 5 bought the home a month ago.

"The previous owner was iving there 25 years. Something was found on the property. Now we want to find out how it got there," said Sautier.

The matter is being investigated by state police assigned to the district attorney, Wakefield police and the chief medical examiner's office.
