Bootleg Special Plans to Open in Boston

A new restaurant may be opening in a space near where Boston's South End and Chinatown neighborhoods meet, and its liquor license could be coming from a cafe and pizzeria in Jamaica Plain.

According to a licensing board hearing page within the City of Boston website, Bootleg Special is planning to open by the corner of Tremont Street and Herald Street (just south of the bridge over the Mass. Pike), with the place apparently moving into the space where DoggieDay Playcenter had been. The listing indicates that Bootleg Special is looking to acquire a beer and wine license from La Rana Rossa, which first opened on Green Street in JP in February of 2016; it is not known what the future might hold for La Rana Rossa, so stay tuned for more. (It is also not yet known what type of dining spot Bootleg Special might be.)

The address for this proposed restaurant on the northern edge of the South End is: Bootleg Special, 400 Tremont Street, Boston, MA, 02116.
