Boston-Area Communities Preparing for Climate Change

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced a new pact among municipal leaders Wednesday

Cities and towns in the Boston area will work together to prepare for climate change.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh announced a new pact among municipal leaders Wednesday at the University of Massachusetts-Boston campus, where the first Regional Mayors Climate Preparedness Summit took place.

Fourteen communities have signed on to the Metro Boston Climate Preparedness Commitment - Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Melrose, Medford, Newton, Quincy, Revere, Somerville, Brookline, Winthrop and Braintree.

The pledge means cities and towns will work together to address critical regional infrastructure and systems and develop best practices and policy recommendations dealing with climate change.

Officials have said the densely-populated coastal region is "highly vulnerable" to climate change. The effort will be led by a task force meeting every two months.
