A Massachusetts man has pleaded guilty to a series of sexual assaults along Boston's Esplanade that started more than 10 years ago.
Suffolk district attorney's office said 49-year-old Alejandro Done, a former Boston resident, pled guilty to indictments with multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated rape, one count rape, two counts of kidnapping and one count of assault with intent to rape, in advance of his trial, which was slated to start July 16.
Done committed the attacks against three women in 2006, 2007 and 2010. An attack against a fourth woman would have been presented at trial; however, police said the woman had returned to her native country after the assault, and would not have been able to make it to the trial.
Done, who is already serving a 10 to 12-year prison sentence in connection with a previous rape conviction in Middlesex County, will be sentenced on July 18.
"Our team of prosecutors and police detectives labored for more than a decade to reach this point," Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley said in a statement. "The defendant’s admission of guilt is the direct result of countless hours spent in pursuit of a predator, first to identify him and then to build an ironclad case against him. The victims in this case, and all survivors of sexual assault can take some satisfaction knowing that he’s finally been held accountable."
Police said they were able to finally track Done through a hit in the FBI's DNA index when his DNA profile was submitted to authorities in Middlesex County, where he was arrested for sexually assaulting a woman in Cambridge as an Uber driver. He pled guilty to the Middlesex County charges in October 2015.
