Boston Fire Department Rescues Dog Stranded in Water for More Than 30 Minutes

Kai, a 12-year-old golden retriever, was in the water for 30-40 minutes before the Boston Fire Department rescued him

A dog was rescued by the Boston Fire Department after becoming trapped in the water Sunday morning.

The rescue happened around 9:40 a.m. in the water at Pleasure Bay, opposite the skating rink in South Boston.

The dog’s owner says that Kai likes to swim but went out a little too far and wasn’t able to swim back. Officials say they rescued Kai about 200 feet from shore.

Kai was stranded in the water for 30-40 minutes before the fire department arrived and pulled the 12-year-old golden retriever from the water.

Kai was treated by Boston EMS and went to the hospital with his owner.

Officials say the technical rescue team was able to bring Kai in quickly, and they credited water rescue training that they had undergone last week with contributing to the happy ending.
