Boston Landmarks Orchestra Putting on Free Summertime Concerts

The ensemble performs a diverse repertoire varying week to week, from classics to jazz and Broadway tunes

The Esplanade is a popular destination in the summertime, and every week, Bostonians can enjoy free orchestral music there.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Boston Landmarks Orchestra performs a concert every Wednesday night at the Hatch Shell. Founder Charles Ansbacher created the orchestra in 2001 to provide free orchestral music to every citizen in Boston.

"All of our concerts are free, and for many people this is their great musical experience they get all summer long through the Landmarks Orchestra," said Christopher Wilkins, Music Director.

The ensemble performs a diverse repertoire varying week to week, from classics to jazz and Broadway tunes. Its mission is simple: Bringing communities together through universal, free access to music.

"To bring free concerts to a city like this is a gift for me, it's a labor of love, and it's a gift to the city," said Jo Frances Meyer, Executive Director of Boston Landmarks Orchestra.

The orchestra also creates community through collaboration with over 30 non-profit, educational performing arts partners in the area.

"An orchestra is in a way a community within a community. It's the perfect place to gather partners and collaborators together," Wilkins said. "I think to bring us together as a community with a form of art that really transcends all kinds of differences and brings us together is something we all need."

Boston Landmarks Orchestra will continue its summer season of free concerts every Wednesday night at 7 p.m.. from through August 31.
