Man Charged in Fatal Double Shooting in Lawrence Held Without Bail

A Massachusetts man was ordered held without bail at his arraignment Wednesday in connection with a double shooting outside a house party earlier this year that killed one man and injured another, according to the Essex County district attorney’s office.

Jeffery Tapia, 23, of Roxbury, is accused of shooting brothers Jenssy Hernandez, 25, and Javier Hernandez, 26, outside a house party at 234 Bailey St. in Lawrence on July 30.

Jenssy was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Javier was taken to a Boston hospital and survived.

Tapia was indicted Monday by an Essex County Grand Jury for murder, assault with intent to murder and illegal possession of a firearm.

He was taken into custody at the Roxbury District Courthouse, where he was reporting for probation on an unrelated case.

Tapia will appear in court for a bail hearing on Jan. 4, 2018.
