Boston Mayor to Address Students for Move-In Day

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is expected to visit Boston's Allston neighborhood Monday to discuss housing

A new school year is bringing another wave of students into Boston, and many are expected Monday for the official move-in day.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh is expected to visit Boston's Allston neighborhood Monday to discuss housing, safety and code enforcement violations among other topics.

It is estimated 36,000 students lived off campus in Boston last year.

Walsh will be speaking at 12:30, along with the Inspectional Services Department commissioner and the Department of Public Works commissioner.

Walsh is coordinating with the department to ensure students get settled into safe off-campus housing and are provided with the right tools to stay connected with the city all year.

There will be three tents set up around the city staffed by representatives. One of the tens will be in Allston to answer questions and distribute guides.

There have been 50 inspectors on the ground to canvas neighborhoods over the past four days. These inspectors will be able to determine if housing is registered with the city and is safe.
