Officials in Boston are already preparing for a safe and secure Fourth of July celebration on the Esplanade.

Security will be heightened this year- with a new ban on drones.

"The general message is no private drones here," began Col. Timothy Alben of the Massachusetts State Police. "There won't be any government drones here. There won't be drones at all here."

Col. Alben added that there are several new cameras around the Esplanade to help police monitor the event. In addition, there will be nine medical stations standing by for any emergencies, Jim Wholley of Boston EMS said.

"We look at this event as one of the signature Fourth of July events in the country, and if you look around the rest of the country, it's actually copied right down to the playing of the 1812," Steve MacDonald of Boston Four Productions said. "So that's always a compliment when people copy what you do."

Meanwhile, crews are working on the risers and light towers at the Hatch Shell where the Boston Pops will perform for the 42nd year in a row.

"This is fundamentally about enjoyment and for many, many years, the combined activities of the public and the City of Boston, City of Cambridge, City of Somerville," Governor Charlie Baker said.
