Boston Police Searching for Indecent Assault Suspect Who Broke Into Woman's Charlestown Apartment

Boston police are searching for a suspect after a woman says a man broke into her Charlestown apartment while she was sleeping and assaulted her.

The alleged indecent assault happened early Tuesday morning in the area of Old Ironsides Way.

Neighbors who know the family say the suspect climbed in through the first floor apartment's window and got into the woman's bed at 4 a.m.

"I feel really bad for her. It's traumatizing. She has a young son. It's got to be blowing your mind, it blew mine," said a woman who lives in the complex.

Police say the victim, who has not been identified, yelled, waking up other members of the household.

The suspect managed to escape out the front door. He is described as a black male, approximately 25 to 30 years old, 5'5" to 5'8" in height, and wearing gray sweatpants with a distinct dark gray rear pocket.

"Everybody knows everybody here, and everyone has an eye out for one another and takes care of everyone else," said Brian Kane, who lives at the complex.

Long-time residents say this is a safe complex with security.

"It's pretty scary. This neighborhood is pretty safe. I haven't experienced any break-ins myself," said Lukar Huang, another resident in the complex.

The victim's family has so far declined to speak with us.

Boston police are actively investigating the incident and urge anyone with information to contact the Boston police sexual assault unit at 617-343-440 or detectives at 617-343-4248.
