This isn't the first championship game for Boston, and city officials are asking residents and visitors to play by their rules on Sunday night as the Patriots face the final hurdle in the team's quest for this year's Lombardi trophy.
Mayor Marty Walsh said his number one priority for those celebrating the Patriots at bars and in outdoor areas is their safety.
"We're asking our fans to do the same thing: respect our city, respect the residents of our city, respect each other," he said.
Both Walsh and Boston Police Commissioner William Gross stressed that fans who use alcohol and/or cannabis while watching the Super Bowl should not get behind the wheel.
"We don't want any tragedies as a result of this game," Gross said, adding that law enforcement officials will be monitoring for impaired drivers.
Officials have also been communicating with colleges to get the message to younger students to behave and watch their alcohol consumption, which is a similar message they've shared with bars and restaurants, especially those in the Kenmore Square area near Fenway Park.
There will also be some parking restrictions in place on Sunday, mostly near colleges in the city.

At The Fours on Canal Street, owner Peter Colton said he doesn't predict things will be that bad.
"You don't see people acting up like they used to," said Colton. "I think the message out there is coming across to most of them and they seem to be getting it."
The mayor says the city's security approach to championship celebrations has evolved since the Patriots first win in 2001. The plans can change on a number of factors but they seem to be working.
"You learn that shutting bars down or not letting people in after the third quarter makes a difference. I think you learn by keeping people separated in the Kenmore Square area makes a difference," Walsh said.
Walsh also mentioned that he's heading to Atlanta for the big game, which will be his first Super Bowl as mayor. He said he'll wear the same shirt and hat he wore to the 2002 Super Bowl versus the then-St. Louis Rams.
The New England Patriots will face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII at Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
