A 20-year-old Boston University student is being remembered as bright, talented and reliable after police found her dead in Atlanta Wednesday, a victim of an apparent murder-suicide involving family members.
BU student Erin Edwards was killed, as was Christopher Edwards, 24, Cobb County police said in a statement. The suspected shooter, who died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, was identified as Marsha Edwards, 58.
Police didn't give more information on what led to the shooting. A family spokesman said Erin and Christopher Edwards were siblings, the children of Marsha Edwards and her ex-husband, Dr. Christopher Edwards, who learned of their deaths Wednesday.
"Dr. Edwards, his extended family and friends are in a state of grief and shock, and privacy of the family is paramount as arrangements are being made," the spokesman said in a statement.
Erin Edwards was being remembered at Boston University as an outgoing, involved student, who was active with campus publications and in the school's community service center.
"The reaction is certainly shock over a real tragedy," Dean of Students Ken Elmore said. "People are really hurting now."
He said she was "incredibly reliable" and well-connected on campus, and that the school is reaching out to students to help them remember Edwards.

"She is the kind of student that we are proud of," Elmore said.
"You can't talk about Erin and not smile," said Emmanuel Reid, a friend of Edwards. "You can't think of her and not get a sense of warmth."
Edwards was recently an intern at New York City's NBC station, WNBC, which is owned by the same parent company as NBC10 Boston and necn.
Edwards' supervisor at WNBC, Vice President of Digital Benjamin Berkowitz, called her "a gifted storyteller with a passion for her work."
"Her enthusiasm was infectious and her smile lit up a room. She was an incredibly decent, kind person who earned our admiration. Her talent was truly God-given. All of us at WNBC extend our condolences to Erin's family and friends at this difficult time," Berkowitz said in a statement.
