There wasn't a lot to be disappointed about from a Bruins perspective in a 7-2 rout of the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 at the Enterprise Center on Saturday night. But Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy left the game a couple of minutes early in the third period after blocking an Alex Pietrangelo shot with his knee.
McAvoy was visibly in pain as he left the ice following the blocked shot and didn't come back into the game with only a couple of minutes left in the third period. But Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy allayed any fears after the game when he said his second-year D-man was fine following the blocked shot, and managed to avoid any injury after stepping in front of the shot in a blowout win.
"He's fine," said Cassidy, when asked about McAvoy following Game 3. "No issues there."
McAvoy was certainly fine during the game as well as he finished with 24:16 of ice time to go along with a rugged five registered hits and three blocked shots in an effort that was long on defense, and a little shorter on offense and puck-moving on this particular night. McAvoy and Zdeno Chara were the only two Bruins players to top 24 minutes of ice time in the victory for the Black and Gold, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the young D-man completely off the ice Sunday after absorbing the shot on his knee.
But it sounds like McAvoy and the rest of the Bruins managed to skate through Game 3 without any injuries or other health issues despite some physical, predatory attempts from the Blues that ultimately fell short of the mark.
