Celtics: Kyrie Irving to Undergo Procedure on His Knee

Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving will undergo a "minimally invasive procedure" on his left knee Saturday to alleviate irritation, the team announced Friday.

There is no word yet on how much time he could miss or whether he'll be able to return for the playoffs. The team said further information will be provided following Saturday's procedure.

Irving has missed five straight games due to his balky knee, which is related to a fractured kneecap he suffered back in 2015.

With the start of the playoffs less than a month away, the Celtics are already dealing with a slew of injuries.

Big man Daniel Theis is out for the season, and reserve guard Marcus Smart recently underwent surgery. Second year starter Jaylen Brown has also missed several games with a concussion, but could return as soon as Sunday.
