Celtics' Marcus Smart Grieving Death of Mother

Celtics guard Marcus Smart is grieving the loss of his mother.

Smart tweeted a note Monday night. It closes with "R.I.P. to the strongest woman I know Camellia Smart my mom 9.16.18."

Smart learned in April that his mother had been battling bone marrow cancer.

After returning from a thumb injury injury, Smart was a force in the playoffs despite playing with a heavy heart.

He became a restricted free agent in the offseason, ultimately signing a 4-year, $52 million contract to remain in Boston.

In the last two seasons, Smart has averaged 30.2 minutes per game, putting up 10.4 points, 4.7 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals. His energy and toughness have been an important part of this Celtics team.
