Change in Leadership Possible for Boston 2024

Boston 2024 is responding to reports that a shake-up is in the works for the organization's leadership team.

Boston 2024, the group working to bring the Summer Olympic Games to Boston, released a statement to address a Boston Globe article that reports a shake-up is in the works for the organization's leadership team.

The Globe article suggests Boston Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca would take over as the chairman of the group- replacing current chairman John Fish. Pagliuca is currently a vice chairman for Boston 2024.

In addition, Red Sox executive Larry Luccino may become part of the effort.

A spokesman released this statement from Boston 2024 CEO Richard Davey:

"As a rule, we don't believe it is appropriate to comment on rumor and speculation. What I can tell you is that our focus as an organization and through our governance process is to ensure we leverage the deep expertise from a diverse group of individuals to strengthen our bid. We continue to identify ways to complement your impressive insights and experiences with those from other equally accomplished professionals. As our bid process evolves, so too will our approach to expanding our Board and council of advisors...all with one clear objective in mind: to bring the Olympics to the U.S., right here in Boston."

The proposed shake-up is in response to the U.S. Olympic Committee's concerns over lack of public support.

Boston beat out Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. for the United States bid.
