New, $30 Million Police Station in Boston Has Public Art, Community Space

Officials were set to break ground on the $29.9 million facility Tuesday

City leaders are set to break ground Tuesday for an upcoming, state-of-the-art police station in East Boston that will house the Hub’s A-7 District.

Mayor Marty Walsh and Police Commissioner William Gross will be joined by local leaders in a ceremony to mark the beginning of the $29.9 million project. The new three-story station boasts 27,000 square feet of space, a community space and public art. The artistic additions are a part of the mayor’s efforts to include more art in the city.

Keeping carbon footprint in mind, the Eagle Street building will be LEED Silver Certified as part of Walsh’s Climate Action Plan goals. It is unclear when the project is slated for completion.

The ground-breaking ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.
