Coast Guard Suspends Search Off Boston, Chatham After Mayday Call

The United States Coast Guard announced Tuesday they are suspending a search off the waters of Boston and Chatham, Massachusetts, after hearing a mayday call Monday night.

Authorities said the search is pending further information.

A search was launched Monday night after a call pinged a tower and bounced to both Boston and Chatham, which authorities say is unusual.

Neither the Coast Guard in Boston nor the Coast Guard Southeast has received a report of anyone missing.

Both continued their search Tuesday morning until about 8 a.m. when they decided to suspend operations.

If anyone knows of a missing boater, you are urged to call the Coast Guard.

If someone knows they made a mayday call by accident, you are asked to let the Coast Guard know so they can stop their search. Coast Guard Boston can be reached at 617-223-3201, and Coast Guard Southeast can be reached at 508-457-3211.
