It’s back to reality Sunday as temperatures only warm up into the lower 20s south and teens to single digits north.
Many towns across the region started off Sunday morning at least 30-40 degrees lower than Saturday morning, and the cold sticks around for most of the work week.
We’ll see plenty of sunshine Sunday, besides a north-northwest wind bringing some clouds and ocean-effect snow showers along the Cape through the early afternoon.
Overnight, winds will shift to out of the north-northeast under mostly clear skies with lows in the lower teens south and single digits to subzero north.
Early Monday morning, as winds shift to out of the northeast, that’s when we will see some ocean-effect snow bands slide into the South Shore to the Cape.
The snow bands will continue into the afternoon and evening into Southeastern Massachusetts, eastern Rhode Island, the Cape, and as far north as the North Shore.
We can expect a dusting to an inch for the North Shore, 1-3 inches along the immediate coastline from Cape Ann to Plymouth, with locally higher snowfall totals inland for Taunton and New Bedford seeing up to 4 inches.

Then, the next system slides in late Tuesday and extends into Wednesday evening. This clipper system moves across the upper Midwest and into southwestern New England by Tuesday evening’s commute for the Berkshires, western Connecticut, and southern Vermont.
The snow expands eastward over the course of the evening into Wednesday morning as the clipper slides off the immediate coastline, but we’re still stuck with the snow through Wednesday evening.
There could be some mixing at the coast, otherwise this will mostly be a snow event. Snowfall totals are expected between 1-3 inches for most of southern New England with locally higher amounts possible. The farther north you go, 1-2 inches from southern New Hampshire to along the coastline of Maine, farther interior Maine is where the snowfall totals drop off.
We’re going to keep an eye on this system as the forecast continues to evolve.
As far as temperatures, highs this week remain near 30, with another thaw looming next weekend.
Highs by Friday stretch into the mid to upper 30s under plentiful sunshine, Saturday and Sunday feature highs into the 40s with some spots near 50 by Sunday.
