Columbia Gas Holds Open Houses on Gas Explosion Recovery Efforts

Gas service isn't expected to be fully restored in the three communities until early December

The natural gas company at the center of September's gas explosions and fires north of Boston hosted a series of community meetings.

Columbia Gas of Massachusetts held open house events Saturday in Andover, Lawrence and North Andover to answer questions about the gas restoration process and other related efforts, and those affected spoke up.

Lawrence resident Thomas Barksdale said he's sick of taking cold showers.

"I just want to have our gas back," Barksdale said.

The Sept. 13 incident destroyed or damaged more than 130 structures, injured dozens and left at least one person dead. Gas service isn't expected to be fully restored in the three communities until early December.

But officials say it's possible restorations will come sooner.

“If we continue at an escalating pace like this, I think we’re going to see a betterment over that date,” said Pablo Vegas, chief restoration officer at NiSource.

Columbia Gas is offering a Thanksgiving meal to those affected by the September blasts.

To make a reservation for the complimentary dinner, visit ColumbiaGasMa.com/Thanksgiving or call 1-877-399-0506.
