Columbia Gas Holds Town Hall Meetings Across Merrimack Valley

'Maybe we haven’t done the best job, but our goal was to put people back in the place where they were if not but for this event'

Columbia Gas held a series of town halls across the Merrimack Valley on Saturday, taking and answering questions from frustrated customers.

About 50 people gathered at Lawrence High School to hear from company executives.

Several people, many of them small business owners, asked about a $10 million fund set aside for businesses and other people who need help. They said they haven’t seen any of that money yet.

“Once we donated that money, it is beyond our control. It is a donation intended to help out with the economic development,” said Mark Kempic, the incoming Columbia Gas president. “Maybe we haven’t done the best job, but our goal was to put people back in the place where they were if not but for this event.”

Columbia Gas announced that it will replace all appliances that it repaired last fall.

It expects to complete that work by Sept. 15.
