Columbia Gas announced Saturday changes to its restoration efforts in the Merrimack Valley following the wave of destructive and deadly gas explosions there last month.
The company has cancelled all space heater evaluation appointments scheduled from this Friday onwards and instead will conduct one single assessment per house to determine all repair and replacement needs, the town of Andover announced in a statement Saturday.
The change is being made so that the company can consolidate its efforts by combining temporary heating assessments with home repair assessments into one meeting per house, rather than doing them in two separate waves.
Customers who need space heaters and are detemined to be able to safely use them will still receive space heaters at these appointments. Smoke and cardon monoxide detectors will also be given out for free.
Rather than making individual appointments with each house, Columbia Gas will notify towns which streets will be receiving assessments several days in advacne.
