Beloved Roxbury Cafe Making a Comeback

This week's Restaurant Roundup includes a nonprofit restaurant's return, another location for a strange ice cream shop and a new location for a local seafood restaurant. (Published Wednesday, June 26, 2019)

It looks like a suburban cafe known in part for its ice cream has closed its doors.

According to a source, Coney Island Ice Cream Cafe in West Newton has shut down, with a sign out front saying that its last day in operation was yesterday. A call placed to the Washington Street spot indicates that its phone is now out of service, while a post within the People Who Grew Up in West Newton Facebook group page confirms what our source said, that it closed over the weekend as its owners were retiring.

In addition to ice cream, Coney Island Ice Cream Cafe also served soups, salads, and sandwiches.

The address for this now-closed spot in West Newton was: Coney Island Ice Cream Cafe, 1284 Washington Street, West Newton, MA, 02465.
