    Woman Dies After Taunton Crash

    A woman died the day after a serious crash in Taunton, Massachusetts.

    State police responded around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to a crash on Route 140 southbound at Route 79. A vehicle had gone off the road.

    The driver, 27-year-old Breanne Cabral of New Bedford, was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries Thursday.

    A 27-year-old female passenger was uninjured in the crash.

    The death toll from Typhoon Hagibis climbed to 53 on Tuesday, days after it tore through Japan and left hundreds of thousands of homes wrecked, flooded or out of power. Hagibis caused more than 200 rivers to overflow when it hit the island nation on Saturday.

    When the medical helicopter was landing, lanes on both the southbound and northbound sides of Route 140 had to be closed. They were reopened when the scene was cleared.

    Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
