The 6-year-old daughter of a firefighter is being credited with saving her family from a 2-alarm fire that destroyed their Swampscott, Massachusetts, home Tuesday morning.

The girl, who likes to sleep with her fan on, woke up her mother when she noticed it was off, fire officials said. The girl's mother, Lori Pierro, then saw an orange glow in the kitchen. The fire alarms went off as the mother was waking up her husband and two sons.

All were able to get out safetly without injuries. Lynn and Peabody Fire Departments responded, but the home, located at 670 Humphrey Street, was left a total loss, according to officials.

"They made it out with literally 30 seconds to spare- or less," Swampscott fire chief Kevin Breen said.

Officials believe that the fire started in the garage; however, the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

"I'm just grateful that we're all alive. It's Christmas season and we should be thankful and we are," Pierro said.
