The upcoming casino resort that’s set to open next month in Everett boasts luxury, gambling opportunities and entertainment. One local city councilor aims to step that up a notch by applying for a 4 a.m. liquor license.
City Councilor Michael McLaughlin said in a statement that he would like to implement a 3:30 a.m. last call for alcohol in order to be competitive against other international destinations.
"Late night hours are successfully implemented all around the world and I am confident that we are capable of doing it successfully here as well," McLaughlin said in a statement.
The extended alcohol service will only be in effect for the gaming floor and to customers who are actively gambling. Spectators will not be allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages after 2 a.m.
The $2 billion Encore Boston Harbor is set to open its doors in June after years of construction and months of public scrutiny due to sexual harassment allegations of its former CEO.
After the Massachusetts Gaming Commission green-lighted the project upon issuing Wynn Resorts a hefty $35 million fine, Encore's team said it is now preparing for the Everett-based resort's June 23 grand opening.
