Weather Forecast: Showers Before Breaks of Sun

Monday night: Showers, some coastal fog. Lows around 50. Tuesday: Morning shower to breaks of sun. Highs in the 50s east, 60s west.

    (Published Monday, April 22, 2019)

Waves of heavy rain will continue through tonight and that is why we have a First Alert. A cutoff low-pressure system is spinning up more showers and a few thunderstorms from the southeast.

The storms so far have remained offshore, but there may be an embedded storm with the waves of steady rain. If that happens, we can't rule out a lightning strike or small hail, but this is a slim chance.

What is more likely is ponding on the roads and localized street flooding which will be an issue as you head home from work. Visibility is also low in the heavy rain. With all the heavy downpours, and almost a half inch of rain so far in Boston through 4 p.m., the Red Sox have postponed this evening's game.

Scattered showers continue overnight, tapering off from west to east through Tuesday afternoon. There will be late day breaks of sun with temperatures in the 50s on the coast, 60s inland.

A cold front sweeps through on Wednesday, bringing scattered rain back in the forecast across southern New England and a wintry mix across northern Maine Wednesday night. Highs remain in the low 60s after clearing Wednesday.

More low 60s are expected Thursday with mostly sunny skies. Scattered rain moves through Friday into Saturday, clearing by Saturday night.

The weekend may turn out great as we have rain holding off until Sunday night, after highs reach the 60s.

Next week we keep in a few shower chances Monday through Wednesday and we stay with highs in the low 60s.
