Facebook Argument Leads to Near-Fatal Beating

A Salem man suffered potentially life-threatening injuries

A man suffered life threatening injuries when he was badly beaten on Sunday following a Facebook argument with an ex-girlfriend.

Police in Salem, New Hampshire, said they were called to Bluff Street just before midnight Sunday for a report of an assault. When they arrived, they found a Salem man on his front lawn suffering from serious facial injuries.

The man told police that he had run into an ex-girlfriend at the wake of a mutual acquaintance, and the meeting led to an argument through Facebook posts. The ex-girlfriend then sent a message to the man asking him to meet her in front of his house. He said that as he walked outside his house, he heard a woman's voice call to him, and as he was walking toward the voice he was attacked and struck numerous times about the face and head.

The man made his way back to his residence, where he collapsed on the front lawn.

The man was taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts, where it was discovered that he had suffered a brain injury. He was then transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Police said the man was able to identify his assailant, but no arrests had been made as of Monday morning.
