What to Know

  • A 29-year-old woman is in critical condition after she got out of a moving Uber in Boston's O'Neill Tunnel Monday and was hit by a car
  • The woman was taking an Uber from Logan International Airport to her home in Jamaica Plain when she exited the SUV on I-93 south
  • Family members say they do not know why she was at the airport or why she would have jumped out of the vehicle.

Family members say they do not know why a 29-year-old woman jumped out of a moving Uber in Boston's O'Neill Tunnel on Monday morning, leading her to be hit by another vehicle.

Roselangie Cano has severe injuries to her head, pelvis, arms and face. She is in critical condition at a Boston hospital.

She's heavily sedated, but her family says she is showing signs of improvement and she is responding to doctors.

"She can move when they ask her to move," said her brother, Leonardo Cano. "Toes, fingers, so that's a good sign, recognizing somebody talking to her."

Roselangie Cano, who lives in Jamaica Plain, jumped from the back seat of her Uber while it was driving through the O'Neill Tunnel in Boston on Monday.

Her brother has no idea why she would have jumped.

"That's the big question right now," he said. "Because she's, like, a normal person. She has her job."

Investigators say Cano had picked up the ride from Logan International Airport.

The Uber driver tells sister station Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra that Cano seemed confused as she took her home, and the next thing she knew, the passenger's door was opening.

Uber says they have no record of the ride taking place.

Massachusetts State Police say the two had agreed on a price offline.

Her brother says he has no idea why Cano was even at the airport in the first place. She had her passport, and he presumes she may have been trying to fly to their home country of the Dominican Republic.
