Boston Police Sergeant Deputizes Family Dog For a Day

A family dog became a K-9 officer for a day after an emergency left their beloved pooch in the care of a Boston Police Department officer.

On July 5, 2018, a family frantic to get their son into Boston Children’s Hospital approached Sgt. Sam Silta for help. Sgt. Silta, who was performing a detail at the hospital, helped the family with parking.

He then offered to take care of their Labrador retriever, Olive, after learning that the family was unsure of what to do with their dog since she was with them at the time of the emergency.

Olive got a ride in Sgt. Silta’s patrol car and walked beside him as they explored the hospital campus. The two made new friends who stopped to pet Olive and take a few photos with her.

"We would like to pass along our well wishes to the family and assure them that Olive is in good hands," the department said in its blog.
