Fan Struck by Blue Jays Player's Wayward Bat at Fenway Park

A man was struck in the head with a bat Wednesday at Fenway Park after Toronto Blue Jays’ Devon Travis lost control of his swing.

It was the eighth inning of the Boston Red Sox’s game against the Blue Jays when the incident happened. The man was sitting in the box seats when the second baseman's bat cleared the safety netting and landed 15 rows above the dugout.

Other fans dodged the bat as audible gasps were let out. Security rushed to give the man towels and recover the bat. The man was able to stand up and shake his fist to acknowledge the crowd, which caused an eruption of cheers. He then walked himself to a stretcher that security retrieved for him.

A Red Sox spokesperson said the fan was treated at Fenway then taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. His current condition is unclear.
