‘Tragic Situation': 4 Teens Dead in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts Car Crash

A fifth victim was taken to Boston Medical Center

Four people were killed Saturday in a single car crash in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz.

East Bridgewater police and fire responded to 558 West Street (Route 106) around 4:30 p.m. after receiving 911 calls for reports of a car into a tree. Investigators said they are looking into whether excessive speeds may have contributed to the crash.

Five males, in their upper teens, were traveling in one car when it crashed into a tree at Laurel Street and West Street, according to authorities.

Three victims were declared dead at the scene. One victim was taken to a Brockton hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A fifth victim was transported to Boston Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.

There was no update on his condition from officials, but Susan Burns who witnessed the crash says the fifth victim was able to walk away from the scene.

She says the collision sounded as if lightning hit the tree outside of her home.

“The police officer got here and we rolled one over and the one that was ejected out of the car and we started CPR,” she said.

Burns says she checked on another passenger that she could see still breathing in the wreck.

“I couldn’t get to his chest so I left him. I left him there,” she said.

Rocky Savino says the teens drove on his front yard, plowed through his stone wall, hit a neighbor's porch and then a tree before landing upside down, trapping them all inside.

“It sounded like a truck. Like a big bang. Like two, three bangs,” he said.

Savino says another group of teenagers in a different car stopped along the road.

“They told me they had a good time, they just came back from paint balling. You know they spent the day paint balling.”

"Our hearts go out to the families of the victims," the East Bridgewater police chief said. "It's a tragic situation all the way around."

Cruz said officials are in the process of notifying victims' families, so they will not be releasing their names at this time.

DA Cruz said they are considering a number of factors in the crash, including speed, weather, and the experience of the driver.

"This is a tragic, tragic situation," Cruz said. "And we hope that any and all young drivers that may be out there for any reasons at this time of the year, this festive time of the year that everybody is careful and goes slow and remember that their parents love them and when they tell them to please go slow, to do that."

This is an active and ongoing investigation.
