A 24-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle late Saturday night in Raynham, Massachusetts.

Raynham police received a report around 10:41 p.m. for a pedestrian struck on Route 44 east, near IHOP.

Officials say Luke Cosgrove, of Norton, was walking in the travel lane when he was struck by a 60-year-old Taunton woman, who was traveling east on Route 44 in a 2012 Toyota RAV4. Cosgrove was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The victim's childhood friend told NBC10 Boston that Cosgrove was a great soul.

The windshield of the driver's car was shattered and its front end was left crumpled as a result of the crash but the driver, whom officials have not identified, was not injured in the crash. The woman remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Raynham and state police are actively investigating the fatal collision.
