Massachusetts is getting more than $90 million in federal grants over a two-year period to help battle the opioid crisis.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says the grants are part of $1.8 billion heading to states and territories that will help combat the crisis by "expanding access to treatment and supporting near real-time data on the drug overdose crisis."
HHS Secretary Alex Azar in a statement said the country as a whole is seeing the first drop in overdose deaths in more than two decades and more people are getting treatment.
The number of people who died from opioid-related overdoses in Massachusetts has declined two consecutive years.
State health officials said earlier this year the number of opioid-related overdose deaths dropped by 4% in 2018.
