Firefighter, Resident Injured in 2-Alarm Blaze

A two-family, two-story home at 314 Walnut Street became engulfed in flames just before 4 a.m. Sunday

A two-alarm fire in Manchester, New Hampshire, injured a resident and a responding firefighter, fire officials said.

A two-family, two-story home at 314 Walnut Street became engulfed in flames just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Crews responding to the scene said the back and side of the house were on fire.

Firefighters entered the house to be sure no one was in it. They say they encountered high heat and zero visibility inside.

One person was taken to a local hospital for smoke and fire exposure, officials said. A firefighter was also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

The flames reached the buildings on either side of the home, forcing officials to evacuate residents of the two buildings, fire officials said. The neighbors were eventually able to return home, officials said.

The house where the fire started is a total loss, officials said. The Red Cross has given the house's residents temporary housing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
