Raad Al-Mumayiz and Suhair Al-Mosully launched Sheherazad with the goal of bringing the authentic taste of Baghdad to Boston.
Al-Mumayiz says the food you'll find on the food truck isn't just your typical shawarma or falafel and there are more foods and spices in Middle-Eastern cuisine than what people may think.
"That region has an immense history and traditions for food," he said. "And what distinguishes this food is the use of the aromatic spices."
Al-Mumayiz said the Middle-East being the crossroads for the spice route allowed for variety in the foods, like Iraqi red chicken, keema and kubba, all of which are on the truck.
Al-Mosully said they two of them enjoy experimenting with new food and bringing specials depending on the season.
"That's what we really enjoy, to keep experimenting with our recipes and introducing new recipes," she said.
Every year, they go to their grandson Alani's school picnic. He said his favorite food is the chicken wrap. He also got to cut the ribbon for the truck's opening in 2015.
The truck was selected best food truck in Boston last year by Boston Magazine. They also were awarded the same award in 2015, their first year on the road, by the Improper Bostonian.
